Specialty Contact Lenses in Lexington, KY
If standard soft contacts have never felt quite right, you are not out of options. At My Vision Care in Lexington, Dr. Ron Haddad fits specialty contact lenses for patients who need more than a boxed pair from the shelf. That includes custom designs for irregular corneas, medically necessary lenses, and fittings that simply need better measurements. Dr. Ron Haddad, OD owns My Vision Care and is the doctor who does these fittings.

Who specialty lenses are for
Specialty contact lenses are medical devices designed around the shape and health of your eye. Patients often come to us after being told they cannot wear contacts, or after years of lenses that move, fog, or dry out by afternoon. We regularly evaluate people with keratoconus, high astigmatism, post-surgical corneas, severe dry eye, and other hard-to-fit surfaces.
A specialty fitting is different from a routine contact check. We map the cornea, review your tear film, and often trial diagnostic lenses in the office so we can see how a design actually sits on your eye. The goal is stable, usable vision and a lens you can wear through a normal Lexington workday or school day.

Scleral lenses
Scleral lenses vault over the cornea and rest on the white of the eye. A fluid reservoir keeps the surface hydrated and creates a smooth optical front. They are often the first choice for keratoconus, corneal scarring, and severe dryness. Read more about our scleral lens fittings in Lexington.
Keratoconus and medically necessary contacts
When the cornea thins and steepens, glasses often cannot restore crisp vision. Custom contacts can. Medical or vision plans sometimes help cover medically necessary lenses. Learn how we approach keratoconus contact lenses.
Hard-to-fit soft and hybrid designs
Not every hard-to-fit eye needs a scleral lens. Some patients do better in custom soft, toric, multifocal, or hybrid designs. If you have bounced between brands without success, a careful hard-to-fit contact lens evaluation is the next step.
What to expect at your visit
Plan extra time for a specialty visit compared with a routine glasses exam. We start with your history: what you have tried, how long you can wear lenses now, and whether dryness, glare, or fluctuating vision is the main problem. We then measure the eye and, when appropriate, place a diagnostic lens so you can see the difference before we order a custom pair.
You will leave with a clear plan: whether we are ordering a custom lens, scheduling insertion-and-removal training, or first treating the ocular surface so a lens can succeed. Follow-up visits are part of a proper fit, not an afterthought.
Insurance, medical necessity, and scheduling
Coverage depends on your plan and diagnosis. Medically necessary fittings for conditions such as keratoconus are often billed differently from cosmetic contact lenses. Bring your insurance cards and a list of prior lenses if you have them. Our team will help you understand what is likely to be covered before you commit to a custom order.
